Residents’ Association De Mirandabuurt
Newsletter 2 – 2025
We’d like to update you on the latest neighborhood news—big and small. For more detailed background information on some of the topics, please visit the Residents’ Association website: www.demirandabuurt.nl.
Enjoy reading, and feel free to forward this newsletter to your neighbors—even if they’re not members.
Erotic Center – Update!
The Municipality reports that it believes an Erotic Center is feasible at the proposed location (the small lake next to Amstelpark). The recommendation has now been incorporated into a draft project memorandum, which can be read via this link: Draft Project Memorandum Erotic Center.
Until July 23, everyone can respond to the proposed arrival of the EC via this link: Erotic Center Response Form.
Please respond!
The Residents’ Association is considering possible next steps. We do our best to keep everyone informed, but we strongly advise residents to follow developments regarding the EC and take action if needed.
Even if you think: “But I’ve already said what I think a dozen times, surely the Mayor and Aldermen know by now…”—responding remains important!
For those who find it difficult to express why they oppose an Erotic Center next to Amstelpark: the Mirandabuurt Association website provides sample objections you can use: link & objection text to be added.
Keeping it clean
Of course, we all try to keep our neighborhood clean, but sometimes things go wrong.
The biggest annoyance is cardboard. Cardboard is NOT collected with bulky waste. You must break it down and place it in the paper bin.
The municipality currently collects bulky household and garden waste every Wednesday. You can place it outside on Tuesday evening after 7:30 PM or Wednesday morning before 7:00 AM. Make sure it’s visible to the collectors, as they can easily miss it.
What IS collected:
Items that don’t fit in a garbage bag or container (e.g., microwave, mattress, rug)
What is NOT collected:
Cardboard, glass, mirrors, construction and demolition waste, paint cans, garden tiles, and car tires
Click here for more information on waste collection.
Report litter yourself
You can also file a Public Space Report via phone number 14020, the website “Report a collection issue” or directly via the Amsterdam app.
Reporting helps! The municipality does its best to keep the neighborhood clean. And: the more reports of litter and such, the more urgent the issue becomes, and the sooner action is taken.
Clean Up Your Street
If you’d like to contribute personally: sign up for “Clean Up Your Street,” the monthly neighborhood initiative to pick up litter for an hour and then enjoy coffee with fellow residents. Grabbers and garbage bags are provided, and coffee/tea with a cookie is free. Sign up via this email address: lien.en.green@gmail.com
Upcoming dates: July 12, August 9, September 13 from 10–11 AM, meeting point: Weteringkerk, Veluwelaan 20.
Entering the city via the A2
As mentioned in the previous newsletter, there are plans to modify the A2 entrance (crossing the Nieuwe Utrechtsebrug into the city). The A10 loop toward Amersfoort will be removed, and the A2 into Amsterdam will be narrowed and rerouted. The Residents’ Association has submitted its opinion to the municipality. We’ll continue discussions and share more news in the next newsletter.
Densification in Buitenveldert
The Residents’ Association is also interested in developments in the Buitenveldert district. There are plans for densification and more housing. Click here for more information on this project.
RAI Expansion Plans
RAI has plans to redevelop the entire site. This could include homes, shops, and possibly a health center. At this stage, plans are still in their infancy. The intention is to integrate the development into the neighborhood. Interested? Subscribe to the RAI newsletter.
Progress on Russian Trade Mission Renovation
The Russian trade mission has been out of the building on Veluwelaan, opposite Torendael, for some time. Renovations are underway so that the Russian Orthodox church community can move in around June/July. The Residents’ Association had a brief conversation with the head of the church; a report is available on our website. The church community also has a website for those interested: www.ruskerkamsterdam.nl.
